I want to say thank you to all of those that helped and supported this years Outdoor Expo at Willow Park Baptist Church. This was by far the best year ever and we are looking so forward to next year. A Place for Grace can never thank Willow Park Baptist Church enough for all they do for the home. The pastor and staff worked very hard to make this years event a huge success. The event raised over $42,000.00 for the home, but more importantly we saw over 100 people come to faith in Jesus Christ at the event. We thank God that we can put an event on such as this that not only provides for the children, but it reaches people with the gospel that might not ever grace the doors of any church. God truly blessed the event and we pray for those folks that had their lives changed forever. Thank you Lord for watching over us and for always being there for us. Thank you for blessing APFG and WPBC.

A Place for Grace Children’s Home needs your help. As you are well aware during these economic times, non-profit entities that depend solely on charitable giving suffer the most. Since October 2008 charitable giving has been on the decline for A Place for Grace. We have cut our budget in the past sixteen months as far as possible to keep operating. In the first six weeks of this year we have recorded the lowest giving amount since the year 2000. Financial support from 2008 to 2009 dropped almost $83,000.00. As we continue to grow and meet the needs of more children and their families, we know we are doing exactly what God has called us to do.

The Bible says in James, Chapter, 1 verse 27; Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. Also in the book of Deuteronomy, Chapter 24, verses 17 through 22 it speaks of us as being lost (bondmen) before we found faith in Jesus Christ. He commands us because Jesus has saved us, to take what we have above what we need and give it to the widows and orphans.

We know and believe with all our heart that God will meet our every need and that He will bless our effort in providing for these children. We also know he wants us to reach out for help from our Christian community, not so much for our needs, but to allow Him to bless you through your faithfulness.

It is our goal to raise $100,000.00 before the end of March. I realize this is a lofty goal and many will say not possible. I serve a God that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. Again the Book of James says in chapter 4; ye have not, because ye ask not. We are asking for your help. First we want your help by praying for us. Pray that God will continue to bless this home and give us wisdom and strength to continue to do His work with these children. Also we need your financial support. I know $100,000.00 in the next 45 days seems aggressive, but let’s partner together to see what God can and will do through His people.

I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for those of you that do financially support this ministry. We know that you could place your support with any number of ministries throughout the world. We are so appreciative that you have chosen A Place for Grace. If you currently do not support us, we want to ask you to prayerfully consider a monthly contribution so we can better plan and budget for the future.

As I think back over the past 13 years and all the children we have seen come through APFG, one thing always comes to mind during Christmas, what is that one thing that every child wants for Christmas? I remember the Christmas’ I spent with my family as a child. My Mom and Dad and three siblings always there together along with a host of other family members. I can’t remember ever wondering if I would have to spend Christmas without them.

Every child wants toys, a new bike and with today’s modern technology, MP3 players, video games and cell phones. But is that what they truly want? After a while the new wears off these things and then we are back to where we are in our lives. As I stated, I can never remember wondering if someone would be there to love me and share those moments of Christmas morning with me.

During this time of year we all reminded of those that are less fortunate and we are drawn to help children and families that may not have a Christmas. What a great time to reach out and meet the needs of these people. But what happens when the holidays are over and we settle back into our comfort zones. What about the next twelve months? What happens to these children then?

What every child wants for Christmas is to know that someone loves them unconditionally and that that someone is there long after the holidays. That someone continues to care for them and to meet there needs. That’s where teaching them about the love of God and leading them to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ is so important. We as human beings will fail them and we cannot meet all their needs. But there is One who can and He will be there no matter the situation in their lives.

Thank you for helping us teach these children about Jesus and for allowing us to be able to step in and be Nette (Mom) and Papaw (Dad) for each of them. We count it a blessing to give these children what every child wants for Christmas, ‘unconditional love’.

May God bless each of you during this holiday season and may we never forget that Jesus is the reason we celebrate this time of year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to each of you.

Partnering with God to reach the next generation

I want to thank many of you that heard our plea for financing and have responded. May God richly bless your faithfulness. Although God has blessed and continues to provide all our needs, we are asking you to partner with us to reach a generation that is headed in the wrong direction. Society has and is teaching this generation that they have the right of entitlement and that they deserve whatever they want and can do whatever they want to get it. It saddens me to see the young people in our country defending alternate lifestyles, terrorist acts and most saddening religion apart from Jesus Christ. This is our future and future of our grandchildren and great grandchildren. We have a responsibility to these generations to help change the atmosphere of our country. As I reflected on Veterans Day yesterday, I thought about my Dad and how he served in Korea and about all the people I grew up with that served in Vietnam. But as I reflected it brought me back to my son, Tye who is currently serving his country as a Marine based in San Diego waiting to be deployed and I thought what is he fighting for? For a country that has turned it’s back on God and the very foundation that founded this great America I have grown up loving. The only way to change this is to reach this generation with the Gospel of Christ and to teach young men and women they have a responsibility to change the direction of this country, but they can’t do it alone. We must partner together with them to make this change. I realize A Place for Grace is small and has reached almost 50 children in the past 13 years, but just imagine if these 50 children reached 50 more and so on what a difference it would make. I want to take this opportunity to thank a dear friend of mine Sujo John who brought all this to the forefront at a recent fundraiser I attended for Weatherford Christian School. His perspective is that of one that wasn’t raised in this country but did everything he could to get here and live the American dream. That dream is fading away for our young people and I pray you will consider what part God has for you in an effort to put this country back on track.

Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for your continued support of A Place for Grace Children’s Home. Without friends like you we would not be able to complete the work God has placed before us. We know that through your prayers and financial support we can continue to provide for these children that have been placed in our care.

As you are well aware, the economy has affected us all, especially in charitable giving. Donations for A Place for Grace are down 40% from this time last year. This presents an opportunity for each of us to seek God’s guidance and direction for the home. We are confident and trust in God’s promises to provide for us according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus.

We also know that he has placed us together as partners to meet the needs of these kids. We are asking that you prayerfully consider what God would have you do to help A Place for Grace get through these tough financial times.

We are well aware of how everyone has been affected, but we also know that God’s economy is never ceasing. Our goal is to raise $25,000.00 by the end of the year. This money will be used for the general operation of the home. Other programs may have to be cut depending on the response of this plea. Our main objective is to simply keep the doors open and continue to provide for these children.

We cannot express enough our heartfelt gratitude for your support of the home over the years. We just felt it necessary to inform you of our situation and pray God will use each of us to continue this work to bring glory and honor to Him.
